Day 26 - Ugly Ottoman to Pretty Ottoman

Day 26 - Re-doing an Ottoman

A friend of mine had this Ottoman sitting around here house she really didn't like, need or have any use for, so she asked me if I could use it. At first I thought that is a horrible thing why would someone ever try to do that to anything, that material is ugly, than I thought ehhh what the h*ll I can always reupholster it

So that's exactly what I did, we don't exactly have to many places to get fabric around here and I'm impatient so I didn't want to order it online and wait to come in or, it would get to be one of those I'll do it later projects lol

Anyways I went to the craft store to check out there selection of fabric, and found some jean colour stretchy material that the lady said would suit it just fine. I ended up get a yard and 1/4 just to make sure I had enough.

With the materials I needed at hand
1 and 1/4 yard fabric
staples
staple gun
two sided tape
scissors
Velcro
I set out to try my hand at this

How I did this-
1. Measured the fabric for all the areas I needed it, and cut them all to size I wanted, each piece I made sure was a few inches bigger than needed on each side so I would have rom to play with the fabric
2. Took all the ugly fabric odd the Ottoman (I found an even uglier Ottoman underneath lol)
3. Took the cushion off the top. Flip it upside down (This one has wheels on it and depending how close to the sides they are you may have to take them off, I didn't the staple gun fit nicely beside them)
4. Starting with the 2 longer sides I stapled the fabric to the underneath lip making sure it was nice and tight, I also wrapped about 3 inches of the fabric around the corners and stapled that to the shorter sides
5. I flipped the Ottoman back on the right side and stapled the fabric tight to the top.
6. I did the same step with the shorter ends of the Ottoman, making sure it was nice and tight. when pulling the pieces up the sides of it, I folded the sides in so you couldn't see any cut sides and it wouldn't fray later. I lined up those sides with the corners so now it has a nice little seem on each corner.
7. Once the bottom of it was done. I moved onto the top pillow. I laid the pillow in the middle of the fabric again brought the fabric up and around the 2 longer sides first and taped it onto the cushion nice and tight
8. Than did the same steps with the shorter side making sure it was all tight and folded the sides to match the sides of the bottom half.
9. I than put the Velcro on the bottom and top half so that the cushion would stay in place

First time reupholstering I think it turned out pretty good
Now to see if it with stands 2 new kittens a teenage boy and a mechanic hubby lol

(it is darker than what it looks in the picture)

1 cup Mayonnaise
1/3 cup mustard
2 tbsp. lemon juice
a bit of honey
(I didn't measure this cause I knew trying to get it out of the measuring cup would be fun, I'm going to say I put probably 4 tbsp. of honey in it, I squeezed the jar 4 times and whatever came out is what went into the mix)

Mix it all thoroughly and keep it chilled

Day 21 - Fry Sauce

Day 21 - Fry Sauce

YUP I thought the same thing.... fry sauce what is that?? Surprisingly its actually kinda good!!! Every time we have fries now at least one person in the house wants the sauce.

I made it a big batch so I wouldn't have to keep making it but I will leave you with both the large batch and the personal size batch

Personal Size                                   Large Size
      2 tbsp.               ketchup              8 tbsp.
      1/4 cup             mayonnaise         1 cup
      1/2 tsp              pepper                  2 tsp
1/2 tsp              season salt            2 tsp        (I used normal table salt)
      1 tsp                 vinegar                 4 tsp

Instructions_
Put all the ingredients into a container and mix
Chill until its being served

So I didn't have to do a bunch of extra work I literally put everything into a mason jar put the lid on it and shook it until it was all mix. Easy as that!!!

Day 20 - Hot Caramel Sauce

Day 20 - Hot Caramel Sauce

This one the kids only like it with apples?? Not to sure why but they only want to dip apple slices in it. So with apples they think its great anything, not on your life

Ingredients-

2 cups sugar
12 tbsp. butter
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp salt

Instructions-

1. Heat the sugar up until its liquid form (this takes a bit and you want to keep stirring it so it doesn't burn)
2. Add the butter to the liquid sugar until its all melted together
3. Add the cream, and let it all boil for 3 minutes (again you want to stir it the entire time its boiling, or you will have a mess, I was cleaning caramel for days outta the burner, and it sticks when it burns)
4. Remove from heat, stir in salt
5. Completely let cool and store in sealed jar

Day 19 - Hot Fudge Sauce

Day 19 - Hot Fudge Sauce

This is a really easy recipe to make, I made it last week and held off on posting it to see what the kids thought of it. Well I don't know if I have kids that don't like treats or if they are just weird. They still haven't tried it, even though even night I tell them to try it. So I tried it this morning up that's right breakfast of champions chocolate!!! It actually wasn't that bad, I dipped strawberries in it, but I think it would taste nice on ice cream. When I ate it, I just heated the jar up in the microwave and took out what I was going to use, pretty easy.

Ingredients-

1/2 cup butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions-

Melt the butter in a sauce pan
Add the chocolate chips in
Stir it around let it soften
Add the milk in and stir until everything is melted
Store it in a sealed container in the fridge

Day 18 - 4 Piece Wall Art

Day 18 -
           4 Piece Wall Art

This turned out amazing, wellllll a lot better than what I thought it would anyways.

How I made this

1. Got 4 blank canvas'
2. Decided on the colours I was going to use, and the layout I decided to use
3. Painted the 2 completely brown and the other 2 completely blue, and I let them dry
4. Put them in the pattern I wanted them in, nice and snug.
5. Took the white paint and splattered it in a circle pattern and again let it dry.
6. I haven't put it on the walls yet, so I put it in the pattern I'm using on the wall just to see what it looks like and took a picture.

Now I want the room /walls finished in the room I plan on putting it on, wonder how long it will take to get the hubby to finish the walls, (I don't know if I've mentioned in past posts, we bought a house and are redoing the entire house top to bottom)

Day 17 - Kids tutu and headband

Day 17 -
           Kids Tutu and Headband

Items needed:

For the tutu-

2 rolls tutu material
2-3 feet each of ribbon

For the headband-

the leftover tutu material from the tutu
1 ft ribbon
elastic material (I used a 2 inch thick piece of old tights, works awesome for newborns head pieces, doesn't leave any marks and stretches out with the baby)

How to make:

TUTU-

1. Put the 2 pieces of ribbon together
2. Cut the tutu material into 10 inch pieces
3. Fold the material piece by piece in half, laying it down on the table
4. Lay the ribbon over the top of the material, and put the ends of it threw the loop pulling it nice and tight around the ribbon. continue this until its as thick as you want
5. Once your all done with the material, pull the material nice and snug together and tie the ribbon, as the baby grows you can make it grow with them, with the longer ends of the ribbon, and moving the material down the ribbon

HEADBAND-

1. Cut the legging material 2 inches think
cut ribbon 9 inches long
2. Fold the tutu material like your making the tutu (I cut it 5.5 inches), using the rest of the material
3. Once done with the material tie the ends together around the legging material and tie a bow
4. All done and super cute!!!!

The thing that took me the longest was cutting the tutu material, other than that it was a super easy, super quick and a super cute project!!

Day 16 - Cute Sayings in Pictures Frames

Day 16 -

         Cute Sayings in Pictures Frames

Today I seen some sayings I thought were cute and thought to myself what can I do with those that's kinda artsy, and thought of I can do some pictures like I have before.

Here's what I came up with!!

"To think of you is to smile"

"Life is all about finding people who are your kind of crazy"

"Don't let what you can't do interfere with what you can do"

 "There's no one like you"

"Be the change that you want to see in the world"

Making these was pretty easy, I used blank paper, fine markers, extra frames I had laying around, and I found a few cute saying. I looked up a few different types of writing and decided what I want to use. These are what I came up with.
Super cute and easy
Now just to figure out where I'm going to put them!!

Day 12 - Soft Caramels

       Day 12 -
                 Soft Caramels

Ingredients:

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup butter
1 can condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup of melted chocolate chips (if you want to dip caramel pieces in chocolate after)

Instructions:

1. Butter OR line a 9x13 tray with parchment paper
2. In a medium size sauce pan heat brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and condensed milk bringing it to a boil. (This part takes awhile. It starts off getting chunky, than slowly turns a light brown, and eventually all melts. You do want to stand over it and stir it while it is melting so it doesn't stick to the pot or burn)
3. Once its all melted and you have brought it to a boil, put it on a medium heat and stire constantly for 10 minutes
4. Pour into a 9x13 buttered or parchment paper lined tray.
5. Cool completely before taking off the paper and cutting
6. Dip pieces into chocolate if desired
7. Enjoy

I personally got to  as from as completely cool and take off the paper. Above are the instructions I followed off pinterest, the persons pictures everything went all smooth and looked awesome. Me in real life not so much.
I can't get it off the parchment paper, I let it cool completely last night and tried, I could get the edges up off the paper, so I put it in the fridge over night, this morning I tried again, it came off a bit more but nothing major. I now have them sitting in the freezer see if maybe that will help. My guess I should have buttered the parchment paper.
But I ripped a little piece off this morning and it does taste good!!!
So over all its a good tasting recipe, but a not so easy recipe to follow and separate from the paper

Day 15 - Cinnamon Sugar

Day 15 -

     Cinnamon Sugar

This of course we have done a million times, if my kids could live off this mix alone they would!! So again another great hit!!!

4 tbsp Cinnamon

Instructions:

Day 14 - Coloured Pasta

Day 14 -

This one was a huge hit with my daughter. She seen it on Pinterest, she thought it was the coolest thing. So we went off to the store she choose the pasta, We came home and so it began.......

4. Add butter and eat it, of bag and freeze it for later

The freezing part is what we did, she choose 3 dye. We split the pasta up into 3 and cooked each one with a different dye (Pink, Purple and Blue)
We mixed all the pasta together and bagged it all in freezer bags in portion sizes for her to take to school for lunch. She cam home last night and raved about it for a good hour, she loved it and all her friends thought it was the coolest thing.
So needless to say this was a huge hit!!

Everyone in the house loves French toast, so this was definitely a hit!!!! The kids especially liked it cause its kids size, they can pick it up and eat it with there hands dipping it in the syrup. My daughters already got it planned out what she's doing with the leftovers in the freezer, She's making her lunches for school and she's taking a few pieces and a container of syrup to school to eat it. Day 5 - Pom Pom Rug

Day 5 -
Pom Pom Rug

This one definitely IS NOT a few hour project, its fun but its a few day project for sure. This took us   3 days, well a few hours of pom pom making a day
Although its easy enough that both myself and my 10 year old daughter made the pom poms together and she thought it was great.

Directions:

1. Make the pom poms (this takes a ton of yarn) - I wrapped the yarn around my cell phone about 75 times depending on the yarn I was using at the time, tied the wrapped yarn in the middle and cut the ends making sure that I left about 5 inches of yarn at each end so I had something to tie it with.
We used about 250 pom poms and the fabric we used was about 4 ft x 3ft

2. Cut the cloth size you want for the underlay of it, (My daughter picked a light blue, and we used a sheet, that way we got to make it the size we wanted) You can use the rug underlay stuff too, I just kept forgetting to go pick it up at the store and my daughter really wanted to put it all together lastnight
3. Gather all the pom poms together and attach them to the sheet (I cut little slits in the fabric put the longer string on the poms poms threw it, and tied them on the back

4. Cut all the extra string at the back, and viola all done!!!

As long as this project took its still a pretty cool idea!! Now she's trying to talk me into adding more to it and doing all her floor in this (Her theory is - well we have to re-do the floors anyways so we can do it in this)

Day 5 - Homemade Apple Sauce

Day 5:
Homemade Apple Sauce that's super easy

Sorry for the look of the picture, I forgot to take a picture while it was in the crockpot and looking a little better. It really is good though!!!!

Ingredients:
  • 10 apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water or apple juice (I used water)
Instructions
  1. Cut the apples into cubes, peel them if you desired.
  2. Place all ingredients in the slow cooker.
  3. Cook on low for 4-6 hours until apples stir into applesauce.
  4. Let it cool down and put it in jars
I'm going to try a batch adding strawberries or raspberries to it,(taking the cinnamon out) I'm sure that will be good too!!!

The hubby requested this, the only fruit thing he will eat, Mr. Picky won't even eat an apple only homemade apple sauce. Not sure why, IDK its gotta be a guy thing lol. He approved it and wants more made.

This one I made last night, let it cool down overnight and put it in jars this morning, its one of those projects that you don't have to sit over the entire time and watch it. You can completely forget about it (literally I did)

6. ENJOY

Another hit with the kids and hubby!!

               * 1 1/4 cup flour

            * OPTIONAL - 2 1/2 oz chocolate chips, raisins, butterscotch chips, or whatever you want to put in the cookies

This batch I split it into 3 parts and added food colouring. My kids like them without any extras, they like the sugar cookie taste

My daughter shared some of the cookies with her daughter and her daughter loved them, so mommy needed the recipe

Another great recipe hit!!!

Day 2 Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

DAY 2:

Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

2 cups peanut butter
2 cups sugar

1/4 cup flour (this is what I added, the dough just seemed to wet without it)

Steps:
1. Put all the ingredients into a bowl
2. Stir it all until everything is mixed good
3. Get your cookie sheets ready (I use the Betty Cocker liner so I just have to lay it on the tray)

5. Take the backside of a fork, criss cross imprint the peanut butter balls (they are now flat and round)
6. Stick them in the oven at 350 for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. (pre-heat the oven before your start

Yes you read that right, its that simple

          1. Take the bowl dumping all the apple sauce and jello powder in it and stir, (If you want to make different flavours just split the apple sauce up into equal parts)
          2. Stir it all together, making sure the jello is mixed all the way threw
          3. Put parchment paper on the cookie sheets (I used 6 cookie sheets in total)
          4. Spread the apple sauce evenly around on the parchement paper
          5. Turn the oven on to 170-200 depending on how low your oven will go.
          6. Put the cookie sheets in the oven and wait!! depending on your oven depends on how long you should keep it in there, (I personally left it in for about 4.5 hours) when the apple sauce is tacky its about done.
          7. Let it cool, than cut it into strips and roll it up for later

I've made this a few times now and these snacks don't last long at all

It's so worth the time, and so good

You can also leave the jello out of some of the apple sauce. Spread the apple sauce across the paper, and with the coloured apple sauce make designs in it than cook it, gives it a funky design and will have the kids amused.

This pin gets the approval It WORKED great!!
